Achievements and realities of surgical treatment for short bowel syndrome (literature review)

B.I. Slonetsky, M.I. Tutchenko, I.V. Verbitsky

Abstract

The literature review provides historical achievements for surgical correction and treatment of patients with acute diseases of the small intestine that have led to the appearance of a short bowel syndrome. In addition, the main directions are highlighted of the modern surgical doctrine, which is of organ-preserving and organ-substitution nature, with the pathogenetic justification of transplantation technologies. The paper proposes a classification of surgical interventions for the correction and treatment of short bowel syndrome.
