Abstract

The article, based on an analysis of the literature and personal clinical experience, presents the clinical features, principles of diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial injuries caused by modern firearms. Given the recent studies on the pathogenesis of high-energy gunshot injury, the approaches to primary surgical treatment of wounds in such victims are determined, the possibility of using the early reconstructions and primary repair of gunshot defects of soft tissues and facial bones are shown. The developed algorithm of providing care to the victims in the setting of multifield hospital, which is based on multidisciplinary approach, the use of recent advances in traumatology, maxillofacial surgery and military surgery, takes into account experience of treating patients wounded during anti-terrorist operation in the Eastern Ukraine.
