Results of Using a Multimodal Program of Fast Track Recovery in the Treatment of Patients with Inguinal Hernia

Abstract


The article presents the results of using a multimodal program of Fast Track Recovery for patients with inguinal hernias, who underwent transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) allohernioplasty. The objective was to improve the short-term outcomes of surgical treatment in these patients. Patients of the study group underwent intrathecal anesthesia with right-sided superficial cervical plexus block and previous analgesia of trocar wounds and hydropreparation of the peritoneum. In the control group, anesthesia was performed by the standard method of endotracheal anesthesia. In all patients from the study and control groups, during TAPP hernia repair we have used polypropylene volume prosthesis with anatomical shape that does not require additional fixation after implantation in the preperitoneal space. Joining of peritoneal edges above the mesh implant was performed using technology of electric welding of biological tissues. Subjective assessment of the quality of life and satisfaction with treatment outcomes were statistically significantly better in the intervention group patients.
Laparoscopic TAPP hernioplasty combined with multimodal Fast Track Recovery program is a safe therapeutic strategy that can be alternative to the standard methods of the treatment and rehabilitation in patients with inguinal hernia.
