Hemostasis and Cytokines in Children with Sepsis

Abstract


The article describes the dynamics of the hemostatic system parameters and the level of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in children with sepsis. We examined 20 children aged 11 to 18 years with sepsis. To investigate the hemostatic system we determined: prothrombin index, thrombin index, activated partial thromboplastin time, international normalized ratio, soluble fibrin monomer complexes, antithrombin III, D-dimer level, time of ХІІа-dependent fibrinolysis. The level of TNF-α, IL-6, IL-2 was determined using ELISA. Dynamics of hemostastic parameters, cytokine level and level of organ dysfunction by P-MODS scale was analyzed on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day of treatment intiation. In children with sepsis in the first day after diagnosis we detected decrease thrombin index, the increase in soluble fibrin monomer complexes and D-dimers, decreased antithrombin III activity and a significant lengthening of ХІІа-dependent fibrinolysis with statistically non-significant differences compared with the control group in terms of international normalized ratio and a high level of organ dysfunction by P-MODS scale.
