Influence of Depth of Anesthesia on the Development of Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunctions

Abstract


We study dynamics of cognitive function in patients who underwent surgery for ischemic heart disease without cardiopulmonary bypass, depending on the depth of anesthesia according to BIS-monitoring data.
The findings showed that maintaining the optimal indices of depth of anesthesia, namely BIS, at the level of 45–55 makes it possible to reduce significantly the incidence of postoperative cognitive disorders in patients who underwent surgery for ischemic heart disease, and the deepening of anesthesia lower than BIS = 40 is a risk factor for postoperative cognitive dysfunctions.
