Hypnosuggestive therapy of nocturnal enuresis in servicemen, who got sick in the zone of an armed conflict during an anti-terrorist operation

Enuresis is a complex pathological syndrome that requires a wide range of therapeutic measures faced by doctors of various specialties. A variety of causes of enuresis shows the complexity of the etiology and pathogenesis of this disease. Inertia of the nervous processes in the cerebral cortex plays an important role in the development of enuresis. This results in a slow transition from inhibition to excitation. A physical and psycho-emotional exhaustion, excessive fluid intake and food intake before bedtime, drinking alcohol, diseases and abnormalities of the urinary tract are those main conditions that cause involuntary urination during sleep. Often, the disease tends to reoccur. Some authors believe that organic enuresis is associated with changes in urinary and nervous systems. Others believe that the pathology is caused by functional disorders. In addition, organic and functional disorders produce significant group of disorders of urination, defined as “dysfunction maturation”, which is described as imbalance of certain functions. It is known that the positive effect of conservative treatment is not achieved only at the expense of specificity of the method or medication preparation. Most likely it depends on whether, under what conditions and in what form a certain method was used, and how particular drugs were presented. Long-term observations indicate that the most important place in the treatment of various forms of enuresis, not excluding some organic forms, belongs to psychotherapy. That is why we used direct hypnotic suggestion to treat enuresis, combined with elements of autogenous training and indirect suggestion using physiotherapy treatment and placebo. A direct hypnotic suggestion was used to treat twelve servicemen, who developed nocturnal enuresis in a zone of armed conflict during the counterterrorist operation. After integrated clinical and diagnostic examination, the final clinical diagnosis was established. The use of psychological therapies enables us to achieve a controlled retention of urine at night in most patients and significantly increase the effectiveness of integrated treatment.
