Abstract

The article presents data on the aetiology, pathoge-nesis, clinical pattern, diagnosis, and treatment of hypoglycaemia as a frequent emergency in diabetes mellitus. The main causes of hypoglycaemic syndrome, as well as medical errors that cause this complication in the practice of anaesthesiology and intensive care and the methods for its prevention are considered in this paper. At the end of the article, we present our own clinical observation of a long-term episode of hypoglycaemia resistant to treatment in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the postoperative period, the patient had constantly taken antidiabetic drugs, which caused complications, that is discussed in this case report.
