Abstract

The article presents the biochemical mechanism of narcotic and toxic effects of ethyl alcohol on the human body, lists the life-threatening complications of chronic abuse of ethyl alcohol with a focus on the compartment syndrome. At the end of the article, a clinical observation is presented, in which the compartment syndrome was masked under the diagnosis of acute cerebrovascular accident for a week, and the patient recovered after three sessions of renal replacement therapy. Attention is drawn to the need for a thorough external examination of patients with alcohol intoxication. All patients admitted to the clinic with acute alcohol intoxication should be screened for rhabdomyolysis.
