Abstract

An overview of domestic and foreign literature devoted to conduct of spinal anesthesia in children. The article contains historical information about the method of spinal anesthesia. Shows the anatomy of the spinal cord in children, anatomical and physiological differences between adults and newborns. Describes the indications for spinal anesthesia in children the spinal needle used, medications and their dosages, the peculiarities of preoperative preparation and premedication in children. The article describes the technique of conducting, assessment of the quality of spinal anesthesia and its advantages. The article describes the features of the spinal anesthesia in premature infants, possible side effects and complications of this manipulation. Based on extensive literature data and own experience the author comes to the conclusion that spinal anesthesia in children is safe, technically simple and cheap with proper experience of the anesthesiologist, proper selection of an anesthetic technique, anesthetic and adjuvants.
