Abstract

According to modern requirements, medical education is the continuity of the three stages. The first two — academic or traditional — are higher education and postgraduate education. The third component of medical education is continuing medical education. According to the results of systematized analyzes, getting only academic education (level 3) does not lead to the achievement of clinical competence (level 4) and performance (level 5), while exactly qualitative mastering of the latter allows improving the health of patients (level 6). Department of anesthesiology, intensive care and medicine of urgent conditions of Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy for 30 years carries out postgraduate training of interns and doctors specializing in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesio-logy for the Dnipropetrovsk region and all Ukraine. We continue to train on structured programs accredited by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, at the same time conducting specific courses that take into account the health needs of the region. To improve the quality and effectiveness of training, we use hybrid/mixed training (recorded webinar followed by in-person, small-group problem-solving sessions; live webcast followed by a group quality improvement), bedside case discussions, review of records and registry data by a physician or group, use of art to stimulate reflections about personal wellness,
online case discussion using social media, procedural training using virtual reality, role-play simulation to practice communication skills, interactive game to learn effective practice management. The combination of the two educational systems (continuing medical education/continuing professional development) allowed us to raise the effectiveness of training from level 4 (competence) to level 6 (the health of patients) of knowledge in the pyramid of the continuing medical education, which was confirmed by the increased effectiveness of the accreditation of anesthesiologists conducted every 5 years by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on regional and national levels.
