Conducting of parenteral and enteral nutrition in such patients is accompanied by a significant percentage of complications, in particular catheter-associated bloodstream infections, hepatic insufficiency, progressive bacterial colonization of the small intestine. Some patients need life-long parenteral nutrition with a possible prospect of intestinal transplantation.
